I use a lot of private label rights content (PLR) on my websites and blogs.  Most of the time I rewrite it to make it search engine friendly and unique to my sites.  Sometimes I rewrite it myself, sometimes I outsource the rewriting, but it's always important for me to make sure that the rewritten content is different enough from the original that my sites won't get penalized or de-indexed for duplicate content.  (I know, some people say that the Google duplicate content penalty is a myth, but why take chances with my websites?  Besides, for my personal sites I like to rewrite the content so that it sounds like me.)

The point of this is that I'm always looking for fast, easy and effective tools that will help me manage the process of rewriting PLR.  And I'm finding that the more I outsource the PLR rewriting, the more I need to stay on top of just how effective that rewriting is.  After all, I don't want to pay for someone to rewrite a PLR article only to find that it's only 10% different from the original.

I've tried web-based duplicate content checkers, but I'm not always online, so I prefer tools that sit on my computer's desktop. Search engine optimization (SEO) is important for my site because I like to get organic traffic. But one of the ongoing issues with PLR is how to reduce duplicate content quickly and efficiently.  Many internet pros suggest that it must be rewritten at least 25% to 35% to be perceived by the search engines as original content.  Many webmasters and bloggers use even higher percentages as their personal standards.  So people who rely on PLR for their sites' content either rewrite it themselves, or outsource the rewriting.  Either way, it's important to monitor the percentage of original content as quickly and efficiently as possible before publishing it.  So here's a review of a tool that does just that.

Duplicate Content And Rewriting PLR

There are two basic types of duplicate content, and if you are a webmaster or a blogger interested in attracting organic traffic to your site you need to know about them both.  One type refers to duplicate content within your site, and the other type refers to the duplication of content between different sites.  In this article, we'll be talking about the second type (duplicate content between sites), especially how it affects using private label rights articles (PLR).

Word on the web is that Google penalizes sites with duplicate content.  So webmasters who use PLR supposedly run the risk of their sites being penalized or de-indexed if they post the articles "as is", meaning without rewriting the content to a significant degree.  But there are many search engine optimization (SEO) experts that insist that Google's duplicate content penalty does not really exist.

If you do some digging and exploring on your own, you'll find that there are websites that appear on the first page of Google that have the same content as other websites that appear on that same first page.  So the question is: does that duplicate content exist because Google hasn't found them yet and penalized one of them, or is it because the Google duplicate content penalty is a myth?  Or you can ask yourself yet another question: do you really want to risk your website's ranking by trying to read Google's mind?

So even if Google doesn't de-index your site for not rewriting your PLR articles, the human searchers who are looking at the first page of Google for their search term are likely to apply their own "duplicate content penalty" when they see two sites listed with the same content.  They're probably only going to click on one of them.  So from a pure point of logic, it makes sense that you will get more search traffic by making the content on your website or blog as original as possible.

Of course, it also doesn't hurt to rewrite your private label rights content just in case Google changes its mind and really does start analyzing and de-indexing in a big way.
